JUSCELINO KUBITSCHEK AND THE PAN-AMERICAN OPERATION (1956-1961)

Silvana Aline Soares Simon

Abstract

This article aims to analyse Juscelino Kubitschek’s period, which had the national development as an important characteristic, based on the association with foreign capital. In terms of foreign policy, the period between 1954 and 1958 was characterized by the return to autonomy and active bargaining against the United States. This situation changed at the end of this period, when there were difficulties in attracting foreign investment and there was a slowdown in growth, with the launch of Pan-American Operation. It was a multilateral initiative and showed a new phase of the Brazilian diplomacy, which would culminate in the Independent Foreign Policy.
